COLLEGE OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES
The College of Health and Human Services includes the Divisions of Criminal Justice, Social Work; the School of Nursing; and the Departments of Kinesiology and Health Science, Physical Therapy, Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration, and Speech Pathology and Audiology. The mission of the College is to provide an outstanding educational experience with connected liberal arts and professional components, and to produce graduates well-prepared for current and future leadership roles in their discipline and community. Academic programs in the College meet numerous sets of accreditation and licensure standards and are recognized for quality, currency, and innovation.
The College's faculty are recognized for their expertise as teachers, scholars and practitioners. They serve as professional role-models for students and are actively involved in the life of the surrounding community and their professional organizations.
The values of caring, service, learning, and leadership provide the foundation for professional study in health and human services. Graduates and faculty demonstrate a commitment to caring about the welfare of others and engaging in meaningful service through their work. They strive to participate in life-long learning and believe in supporting and promoting responsible leadership.
The College has a significant impact on the delivery of health and human services in the Sacramento Region, with over 31,000 alumni and more than 5,700 majors. The College operates the Maryjane Rees Language, Speech and Hearing Center which treats over 500 clients each year with speech and hearing disorders. The College also operates The Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution (CAPCR) which provides education and training, research, and direct services pertaining to mediation, negotiation, and arbitration. With the addition of new space in Folsom Hall (60,000 square feet), the School of Nursing has new, state-of-the-art teaching/research facilities including skills labs and a number of high-fidelity simulation labs. This is the first step in the development of the College’s Center of Health Professionals in Folsom Hall. Future plans include relocating the Departments of Physical Therapy, and Speech Pathology and Audiology to Folsom Hall. Finally, the program in Physical Therapy will admit it’s first class of students to the new Doctorate in Physical Therapy in the Fall of 2012.
In summary, the College of Health and Human Services represents a diverse group of professional disciplines united by a commitment to prepare educated, insightful, adaptable leaders for a contemporary and visionary workforce.
